"Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything by prayer and petition [definite requests] with thanksgiving continue to make you wants known to God." Philippians 4:6 (Amplified Bible)

The definition of the word "Petition" as defined by Webster's Dictionary is: 1. A formal request or supplication. 2. A formal request addressed to a person or group in authority. 3. A formal application in writing requesting judicial action.

The disciple John said, "And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him" (1 John 4:14-15, ASV)  Now look at it in the Amplified Bible:  "And this is the confidence-the assurance, the [privilege of] boldness-which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan) He listens to and hears us.  And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him." (1 John 5:14-15)  This is the kind of prayer that John is talking about. It is not a rush in and rush out prayer. It takes time, effort and preparation to know God's will. The prayer of petition is always based on the known will of God. You must know the will of God to pray the prayer of petition.

God's Word must be final authority. Knowing what His Word says is how you can gather your facts and construct the Prayer of Petition. You may be facing an impossible situation. Maybe in your finances or your health, maybe in your family or your marriage. Don't ever give up just because someone else said it was impossible. Jesus said in Mark 9:23, "All things can be-are possible-to him who believes!" (Amplified Bible) The scripture tells us in Luke 1:37, "For with God nothing is ever impossible, and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment." It says in Mark 10:27, Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

First, what is the will of God concerning your situation? Get into your Bible and search out the word, what does God say. You can know the will of God. There were many instances were Paul said, "Beloved I would not have you ignorant." God does not want you ignorant to His Word and if you will look, and call on the Holy Spirit to help you, you will find the will of God concerning your need. Look at what it says in 1 Corinthians 2:10-12,

"Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the (Holy) Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God-the divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man's scrutiny. For what person perceives (knows and understands) what passes through a man's thoughts except the man's own spirit within him? Just so no one discerns (comes to know and comprehend) the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have not received the spirit (that belongs to) the world, but the (Holy) Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts (of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly) bestowed on us by God." (Amplified Bible) The Spirit of God knows how to pray, the Holy Spirit, God's own Spirit, knows how to pray the Word. Giving you His Word was His part, watching over that Word to perform it, is His part (Isaiah 55:11), your part is to pray that word and make it final authority in your situation. Your part is to release that Word from God over your situation, with your mouth, and refuse to budge, continue to stand, no matter what, You don't let go of the Word.

The next things that you need is thankfulness. When you sit down to write your prayer of petition, take some time to remember the goodness and faithfulness of God during other times in your life. Take time to remember and be thankful for all the times He has delivered you and provided for you and performed miracles in your life before. Take time to thank Him for the things that you have now, it all comes from His hand, take time to say thank you.

When I found out that one of my favorite faith teachers had a Bible School, I wanted to go. I was hungry for knowledge, I wanted more knowledge in the Word. So I wrote out a Prayer of Petition to attend Bible School. Below I have given that Prayer of Petition to you as a sample to help guide you in writing out your own Prayer of Petition. Remember, it is a definite request, it is a formal application in writing to one who is in authority. It is serious and must be taken seriously. Take time to search the Word, take time to prepare you petition, take time to offer up thanksgiving, and be prepared to make that word final authority. Write out your vision, write out your dreams and take that petition before the Father and then get ready to receive.

I receive a heavenly grant in the amount of $1250. Father in the name of Jesus, I come boldly to the throne of grace, and present Your Word.

Father, Your Word says, in Isaiah 43:26, “Put Me in remembrance; Let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted.” Father, here is my case: I want to go to Brother Jerry Savelle’s Bible School. Your word says, in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing-rightly handling and skillfully teaching-the Word of Truth.

Father, your Word says, in Hosea 4:6, “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.” (AMP) I desire to have the knowledge to teach your people. Your Word says, in Psalm 21:2, “You have given him his heart’s desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips.”

According to John 16:23, Jesus said, “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My Name.” (AMP)

Jesus, You said in Mark 11:24, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted you, and you will [get it],” (AMP)

Father, Your Word says, in Matthew 4:23, “And He went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news (Gospel) of the kingdom and healing every disease and every weakness and infirmity among the people.” (AMP) I want to be able to travel with the Good News of the Gospel. I am anointed like Jesus was anointed, and I want to see burdens removed, yokes destroyed and the captives set free.

Father, Your Word says, in Ephesians 4:11-12, “And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us,] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers. His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church), (AMP). Lord, I want to be an effective teacher of Your Word.

Jesus, You said, in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; Teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you all the days,-perpetually, uniformly and on every occasion-to the [very] close and consummation of the age. Amen-so let it be.” (AMP) I want to teach, to tell them of you and to see them come to you, but I must first be educated in the things of God, like you educated and taught and trained your disciples.

Jesus, You said, in John 14:26, “But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall-will remind you of, bring to your remembrance-everything I have told you.” (AMP) I need The Holy Spirit, to teach me and guide me through the lessons, to root them and ground them in my heart and to cause them to well up in me and bring them to my remembrance in every season and on every occasion that I would teach them to someone else.

Father, You Word says, in Galatians 1:12, “For indeed I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it: [it came to me] through a [direct] revelation [given] by Jesus Christ, the Messiah.” (AMP) Brother Jerry operates in the Spirit and receives revelation from the Spirit that guides Him into all things, I too, Father, ask to receive revelation knowledge from Your Word as I work to learn Your ways and precepts, that I would be an effective minister of Your grace.

According to Matthew 18:18, I bind Satan and all his forces, and I render them helpless and unable to operate against me. They will not hinder my grant, In the Name of Jesus.

According to Hebrews 1:13-14, I loose the ministering spirits, and I charge them to go forth and cause my grant to come into my hands, In the Name of Jesus.
